Whether it be the Halloween or Christmas, a wedding or a ball game, work or relaxation, friends are the people who fuel our lives. Humans are social beings by nature, and we always try and live as per social norms, and that is the reason why it is quite obvious that very often we come across people in our vicinity who appear to be more important than all others. These are the people we call friends. They lift us and give us joy because that is what the friends do. To celebrate the spirit of friendships, here we present co-actors from popular comic book films that also happen to be best friends.
Chris Evans and Chris Pratt
These two stars play Star-Lord and Captain America aka Peter Quill and Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite them not having shared screen space in any movie, (no, not even in Avengers: Infinity War), they can be called co-stars because they worked in the same film. Chris Pratt and Chris Evans have been friends for a long time, even as far back as the days when Chris Pratt used to be the fat guy from The Office. They have a solid friendship that serves as an inspiration for the other actors. They have not only helped each other since they are great friends but, they also motivate each other to do better by their spirit of healthy competition. Just like the time when they had to compete with each other during the numerous hospital visits they undertook in full superhero attire.
Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman
Despite having rarely featured in a film together, the mere thought of seeing Catwoman and Wolverine become good friends is exciting, and here we have two actors that are among the most benevolent people you are ever likely to meet. The characters of Wolverine and Catwoman are both anti-heroes who do whatever they feel is needed to deliver their brand of justice. However, Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman are kind people who separately as well as together wish to work to improve the society in whichever way possible. The actors who worked together in The Les Miserables are ‘bros’ to each other as stated by Anne Hathaway.
Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist
It made us all a bit upset when it was revealed that Supergirl was going to be based in a totally unrelated universe and not the Arrowverse on CW. However, we felt equally joyous when it was declared that Supergirl would feature a crossover with The Flash. Finally, we got to see Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist in the same frame. The reason why these two share fantastic chemistry is that these talented actors are great people in real life too and they love working with each other.
Tom Holland and Zendeya
Spider-Man came home to Marvel Cinematic Universe in a brilliant film titled “Homecoming.” Fans all over the world were delighted to see Spider-Man join the shared superhero universe. However, their joy increased once they found that Zendaya was cast in the movie alongside Tom Holland. A lot of viewers didn’t have a clue about what she was going to do in a Spider-Man film apart from playing a background character. However, once the film was released, it became clear that Zendaya was playing the equivalent of Mary Jane Watson in the MCU, aka the girl that Spider-Man loves and who would one day marry him. This also explains the reason behind their friendship.
Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams
The Game of Thrones actresses have a difficult on-screen sisterhood, the Starks have experienced so much strife, emotionally as well as physically that it has nearly become impossible for them to trust anybody from the Game of Thrones world. However, the demanding shooting schedule and the grueling story of the show has not prevented the cast from interacting with each other. They have become almost inseparable since the first season one and share incredible bonds to such an extent that their social media accounts are full of group posts and outings. We are happy that the sisters are enjoying each other’s company, even if off-screen.
Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon Levitt
Everyone loves good bromances (and the fact that it leads to amazing fanart). A subtle entrant for this list is this duo since Tatum has only been fan-cast as Gambit and Levitt had briefly played Robin/Nightwing after The Dark Knight Rises. They have been best friends since they worked together in Havoc (Levit’s debut movie), and have continued being great friends across films like Step-Loss and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. The ladies can’t just have enough of these two men nurturing a bromance, and we hope that they keep going so that the ladies stay happy.
James McAvoy and Benedict Cumberbatch
The friendship between Doctor Strange and Professor X? It certainly sounds fascinating, right? One of them is the most powerful brain in the world, and the other one is the Sorcerer Supreme. It would be beyond Thanos if these two joined hands on the big screen and displayed their full powers from the comic books. However, their friendship has so far been strictly off-screen. While we are sure that the X-Men will come to MCU soon, there is a great possibility of the role being recast.
Edward Norton and Mark Ruffalo
The Incredible Hulk was an unofficial first film for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a decent success for Edward Norton. This was the first time that Marvel had created a superhero inspired film that was loved by the public. The Incredible Hulk had greatly, and this resulted in Edward Norton exiting what was going to be shaped as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The role was recast, and Mark Ruffalo started off from the point where Norton had exited, and The Hulk went on to become an extremely popular character once the Avengers arrived. Despite all the chaos, there was never any hostility between Norton and Ruffalo. They have been good friends in real life, and there is no reason why their friendship won’t continue for many more years to come.
It is not as if everything is hunky-dory in the real world, unlike the movies. There are some comic book based movie duos that don’t enjoy each other’s sight as much as they should. The casting directors never really bother about the personal relationships between the actors who play the comic book characters. If there is an actor that looks like the character, he/she will get cast. Here we present some pairs that are not friends by any means in the real world.
Robert Downey Jr & Terrance Howard
Whoever has read the Iron-Man comics, would know that the superhero has a particular affinity with the comic version of Colonel Rhodes. Tony Stark and Colonel James Rhodes have enjoyed a specific bond throughout the years. As comrades in their battles, and superheroes who work to deliver justice, there is a great need to maintain poise to portray Colonel Rhodes and perfect chemistry with Tony Stark. However, the original Iron-Man actors Robert Downey Jr. and Terrance Howard had a troublesome relation, and this resulted in Howard getting replaced in the sequels.
Wesley Snipes and Ryan Reynolds
Ryan Reynolds has a major problem, and it seemed as if he could never get the ideal superhero role. Well, at least that was how before he became Deadpool. Before turning into the gutter-mouthed mercenary, Ryan Reynolds was a part of the Blade Universe. Trivia: the two heroes never managed to feel good about each other’s company.
