21 Exotic Game Of Thrones Destinations That Fans Must Visit To Experience Real-Life Westeros

The primary location for Game of Thrones filming is at the Paint Hall Studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where the show’s sets are located. Most of the on-location filming of the show took place at this location. However, there are various other fantastic locations, outside of the Seven Kingdoms, where filming has taken place. In fact, each season of the show has taken us to new countries. For example, Season 1 had scenes filmed in Malta depicting the Free City of Pentos and the logic was to show that the capital of the Seven Kingdoms had a warmer, Mediterranean climate unlike the cold areas around Winterfell. Season Two touched down upon Croatia and Iceland, and the famous Croatian port town of Dubrovnik featured prominently as an outdoor location for King’s Landing. Season Three took the show to Morocco for the depiction of the cities of Astapor and Yunkai located in Slaver’s Bay. Season 4 further explored locations in Iceland for scenes based in the Seven Kingdoms.

Again for displaying Dome in Season 5, HBO took the show to Spain and the famous medieval Islamic palaces (it helped that the Dome in the novels was anyway inspired by actual medieval Spain). Filming was done in Seville to portray Dome and its capital Sunspear and a part of filming was done in Cordoba too.

These are some of the locations where Game of Thrones left its footprints apart from locations in other countries including the UK and USA. Therefore, it won’t be wrong to say that going on a trip to experience the Westeros in real-life might give you a great chance to travel to some of the most beautiful locations in the world.
