DC is the oldest comic book brand (probably) still running, and it is the biggest and the most expansive superhero universe featuring numerous characters. Despite the fact that there is no lack of heroines in DC Universe, the one name that shines prominently among them is Harleen Francis Quinzel aka Harley Quinn. In fact, you might say that the Wonder Woman is the embodiment of truth, justice and feminism, but, is she relatable. No, she is not. Whereas Harley Quinn is a former mental health expert, she has now become a mental patient herself. She is homicidal, amoral and mentally unstable.
Harley Quinn has been in a relationship with the Batman villain Joker since her DC Universe debut in Batman: The Animated Series. Although this relationship has never been a happy or healthy relationship, they have definitely made a great impact in the world of comic books to the extent where even casual Batman fans are also familiar with her.
In a lot of ways, her traits are more prominent than the Joker since her character has more depth and a fascinating past. Harley is a person that one could relate to, and that is why she is scarier. Over the years, Harley has repeatedly proved that she is definitely a deadlier villain than her lover.
It might sound unbelievable, this iconic DC character was originally created solely for the purpose of being a minor character in Batman: The Animated Series. The creator Paul Dini was inspired by his college friend and soap star Arleen Sorkin’s work in Days of Our Lives and unwittingly based the character on her. She even voiced the character later. Her legendary look was designed by Bruce Timm. Although they had no plans for her beyond her debut appearance, once Dini and Timm saw her in animation, they knew there was a character to be given a longer run.
