Everyone loves stories, and the reason why comic books score high among youngsters is courtesy of their graphic depiction of stories. The superhero comics have brilliant imagery, displaying in a vivid and colorful way, things that take place in the stories. With the advancement of graphics technologies and CGI, it has now become possible to convert most of the comic book stories and characters into live-action TV series’ and films. However, the importance of the drawn art and sketches can never be overlooked.

Way back in 1978, Stan Lee teamed up with John Buscema, and they created How To Draw The Marvel Way. This manual containing 192 pages, assured the wannabe artists to teach them how to sketch the iconic superheroes just the way the professional artists did.

Sadly, most of the people who made attempts to create the best and the most famous Marvel characters failed in their efforts, and the outcome was almost similar to The Avengers drawing their characters on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

At the same time, there were a few who persisted and utilized their talent to work as concept artists for Marvel Studios. Andy Park is a concept artist for Marvel, and he said, “How to Draw the Marvel Way was like my bible growing up! There are a LOT more designs!” A number of aspiring artists took inspiration from How To Draw The Marvel Way to start their future careers.

While working on their films, Marvel Studios utilizes a number of superhero character concept designs, and these sketches help them to create the character that we see on the cinematic screen.

While certain concept art pieces are identical to what is seen on the screen, there are others that are vastly different.

Since there is a large number of designs which are different from the final look of a character on screen, it is fascinating to check out some of the early concept arts to discover how things could have been. It can also be said that some of the unused designs look even better than what was eventually used in the movies.
