Comic books had really been a pretty huge thing for many years when the entire industry had been as rocked by Action Comics #1, which had the very first appearance of the character, Superman. The Man of Steel had been a huge sensation, and then, the rival comic book companies had been trying to try their versions of this character. The teams at National Comics (DC Comics) had sued or even threatened to sue them for stealing this idea. One of the companies that it had forced to drop the imitation had been Fawcett Comics, who had a Superman knockoff called Master Man.
Then, DC had a new character called SHAZAM who had been an acrostic and had stood for Captain Marvel’s powers: the Wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury. Here are seven powers of this character that the fans may have forgotten:
1. ATOMIC PUNCH
Shazam is a very old character who had been around when atomic bombs had been introduced. So, Shazam’s most powerful punch had been named as the “Atomic punch.”
When Shazam had put his full energy into the punch, the contact would actually cause a mushroom cloud to erupt from the spot where the punch had landed.
2. STAR JUGGLER
When Superman had debuted, he could “leap over tall buildings in a single bound” and had been “more powerful than a locomotive.” Since Shazam had been designed to be a riff on this character, his power levels had been similar.
Both these characters had become strong enough that they could just juggle planets and also move whole suns.
3. FLY FASTER THAN LIGHT
While Shazam and Superman had been unable to fly when they had been introduced, it was Shazam who had beaten Superman to the skies, as he had gained the power of flight.
Even after he had started to fly, Shazam’s flying skills had not really reached the very same levels as the Last Son of Krypton. Shazam had used many means of travelling through time, and Shazam had gained the ability to fly much faster than the speed of light.
4. TELEPORTATION
Teleportation has had a very weird history with Shazam. He initially had the ability to teleport, but it had been a very narrowly applied power. It had been used for him to travel back and forth from the Rock of Eternity.
Ever since the New 52 had dawned, Shazam gained the ability to teleport outright.
5. LIGHTNING POWERS
In the New 52, other than changing Billy Batson’s background so that he could be a part of a foster family of kids and making the character’s name Shazam, another change is that Shazam’s lightning is more than just what transforms the boy from Billy Batson to Shazam.
He can now shoot lightning out of his body as a superpower.
6. SOURCE MANIPULATION
During “The Darkseid War,” many members of this team had been seen with their powers altered. When it came to Shazam, he had lost his connection to the Gods who had given him his original powers.
The Z in “Shazam” had been Zonus, the last of the Old Gods. He had given Shazam the ability to manipulate the very Source of his powers.
7. FIRE POWERS
During “The Darkseid War,” Shazam had earned a breath power that Superman could just dream of.
The H in “Shazam” had belonged to H’ronmeer, who is a Martian god. On Mars, the end of life has been symbolized via fire, which is why flames are the weakness of the Martian Manhunter. H’ronmeer had given Shazam fire powers, and he can shoot fire from his hands and also has fire breath.
