After the start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there was some confusion about who was the strongest Avenger. The Hulk and Thor are two contenders, and either of them could be called the “Strongest Avenger.” However, after a careful evaluation of things done by him in the MCU films until now, and done by others in all the 20 MCU films, it is clear that Thor is the “Strongest Avenger.”
Over the years, Thor has done everything whether it be surviving a blast aimed to destroy a whole country or delivering a blow to the most powerful being in the whole Universe. Here we present seven insane displays of strength by the MCU’s God of Thunder.
Defeated Surtur
When someone from a species classified as ‘demon’ appears, it is never a good thing. Even before acquiring the power of the Eternal Flame, Surtur ruled the Fire Demons when he was seen in Thor: Ragnarok.
Despite all the power wielded by a giant made of flames and his smoldering sword, Thor traded blows with him and also defeated him with only a few blows after getting close to him. As if that wasn’t enough, he even slaughtered numerous normal size Fire Demons.

Escaped Hela’s attack
We agree Thor didn’t kill Hela in all their battles, but, he battled her twice and survived, which is something none of the other Asgardian army members could do. Even Surtur, who eventually stopped her, perished in the effort. Whereas Thor took on Hela twice, and all he lost was his hammer and one eye. Not too many MCU fighters can survive against Hela anyway.

Beat Malekith and the Aether
As it was revealed in Infinity War, the Infinity Stones are incredibly powerful things. Having one Stone itself can make someone defeat Hulk, control minds or destroy the whole Nine Realms. The last almost happened in Thor: Dark World when the evil elf Malekith got hold of the Aether/Reality Stone. A scientific device could have stopped the Reality Stone, but, before that device could be used, Thor had to battle the Dark Elf who wielded the Infinity Stone.

Defeated Hulk without Mjolnir
It is repeatedly stated that the Hulk is the strongest. After he appeared in the first Avengers movie, it even appeared to be true. Thor was able to stand his ground in a battle with Hulk, but, he had to rely on Mjolnir to fight him, and Hulk had the advantage (at least according to Iron-Man).
In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor fought without the hammer, and he discovered that he was much stronger than he had known. During their fight on Saakar, Thor clearly defeated Hulk before their match was interrupted.

Bore the force of a Neutron star
In case, it wasn’t enough to see Nidavellir up and running, Thor did another fantastic thing after restarting the furnaces. The furnace mechanism was damaged, and Thor had to pry it open as the heat from the furnace melted the Uru to forge the new weapon.
It reminded us of the scene where Captain America held on to the edge of a building and a helicopter in his other hand. The difference was Thor was dealing with a star-sized furnace, and directly bearing the focused blast of a neutron star, and for a much longer duration. It might be the strongest thing ever done by Thor.

Turned the battle of Wakanda on its head
Thor was loudly cheered in Infinity War, especially during the battle of Wakanda. When he landed there with Groot and Rocket, most of the other heroes were either defeated or were about to.
However, when Thor emerged out of the Bifrost, the tides turned. While Groot and Rocket were delighted to help, it was clear that Thor tore through the Thanos army. Thor was nearly untouchable in that battle, and his fierceness was unmatched.

Fatally wounded Thanos
Despite being criticized for it, Thor was the only one in Infinity War to have a real chance of killing Thanos. After the Mad Titan completed his Infinity Gauntlet and became the mightiest thing in the Universe, Thor still managed to lodge his ax into Thanos’ chest.
If only he had aimed for the head or the hand, things would have been totally different. Yet, that is quite likely. Still, Thor proved that he was powerful enough to nearly kill Thanos. That in itself settles the debate.
