A kiss for King Charles III as he greets mourners at Buckingham Palace

Breaking news - King Charles III was kissed on the face by a mourner as he spent 10 minutes greeting members of the public who had gathered to greet him at Buckingham Palace. Thousands lined the barriers to welcome the King, as he arrived just after 2pm in central London. He went along the entire line, shaking hands and talking to those cheering his name. The King will hold an audience with Liz Truss, the Prime Minister, and pre-record a televised address to the nation, which will be broadcast at around 6pm. People climbed on top of railings and put their phones in the air in order to catch a glimpse of the King and Queen Consort. Pat Jolly, 76, and Theresa Stafford, 74, both from Canning Town, East London, life-long best friends who came down to pay their respects to the Queen and the new King.
